Auckland's Best Cycling Routes

To celebrate the opening of the travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand we're checking out the best cycling routes in Auckland.

The city has a lot to offer cyclists — a buzzing CBD located along a pristine shoreline, just minutes from mountains, national parks, islands and beaches. Whatever you do you can expect to find something new every way you go.

1. Tamaki Drive

A popular scenic ride from Auckland's CBD out along the bays to the East of the City. With a designated cycling lane, this 60km loop route is popular with cyclists of all levels. See some of Auckland's most popular beaches including Mission Bay before turning around at Point England Reserve. Checkout the full route.

2. Airport Loop

A popular mid-week training ride taking you through constantly changing scenery along its 60km route — from the CBD along pristine bays, through Auckland suburbs, into green farming country and past the airport before heading back over the Mangere Bridge. Checkout the full route.

3. Triple Peaks

Conquer the 3 most prominent volcanic peaks in Auckland — Mount Eden (196m), One Tree Hill in Cornwall Park, and Mount Wellington — each rewarding you with scenic views of the city. Finish via Mission Bay. Checkout the full route.

4. Tour de Ranges — Prue Fowler's Pick

A good challenge for medium or advanced cyclists. Heads South East through Clevedon before circling the Hunua Ranges. Three climbs over 150m elevation along its full 170km route. Checkout the full route.

5. Around Auckland

Takes in Auckland's hottest neighbourhoods and most stunning bays — through Ponsonby, the Wynyard Quarter, the Quays, bays and beaches to the East, and back through Newmarket. Checkout the full route.

6. Waitakere Loop

See the scenic gems to the West of the City. Highest climb at Ruaotuwhenua over 300m. Extend to the North Shore's white sand beaches and grab a ferry back from Davenport for an ultimate day out. Checkout the full route.

7. Taupaki Loop

A quick 40km route for cyclists of all abilities. Heading West from the city through constantly changing scenery into the farming town of Taupaki — stop for a coffee or turn around for an equally picturesque ride back into town. Checkout the full route.
